COOKING ITALIAN WITH THE CAKE BOSS: Family Favorites as Only Buddy Can Serve Them Up (Free Press; November 6, 2012; $30.00) introduces 100 of Buddy’s delicious, essential Italian-American recipes—from his grandmother’s secret dishes to his personal specialties he makes for his own children—with signature touches that make everyday meals into memorable family events. Buddy includes tips passed down through generations to make Italian favorites even more delicious, along with clear techniques and step-by-step color photos. As he’s working with you on these delicious recipes, he’s telling more stories about himself and his clan’s memorable moments in the kitchen, making you feel like part of the famiglia.

BuddyValastro—a.k.a. the Cake Boss—is the internationally popular star of the hit TLC series Cake Boss and Next Great Baker and the owner of Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, NJ.

I know I’ve told you guys a bunch of times…Italian food is my favorite cuisine!  I think my heart skipped a beat when I was asked to review Buddy Valastro’s new Italian cookbook!  Buddy is so talented!  I really enjoy watching him on TV.

Some of the best recipes are the ones that are passed down from generation to generation, so I can’t wait to try some of the recipes from Buddy’s grandmother!

I made Buddy’s Rigatoni “alla Vodka” on page 163.  Holy cow!  This is so good!  It’s a simple tomato sauce with some whipped heavy cream folded in.  It’s hard to see in the photo, but it has fresh basil and pieces of prosciutto in the sauce.  What a great combination of flavors!  Can’t wait to make it for my boys over the holidays!

I also made the Pasta with Ham, Peas, and Cream on page 171.  This was delicious too!  Another great dish that takes less than 30 minutes to make!

I’m looking forward to cooking my way through this book!  There’s a little bit of everything- Appetizers, Salads, Pizza, Soup, Pasta, Main Courses, Sides and Desserts.

Recipes I’d like to try:

Pasta e Fagioli

Potato Gnocchi

Shrimp Scampi

Eggplant Parmesan

Mozzarella-and-Sausage Stuffed Chicken

Roast Prime Rib

Roasted Asparagus with Crispy Breadcrumbs

Orange Angel Food Cake with Orange-Cinnamon Glaze

If you’re into Italian food, you’ll love the recipes and Buddy’s personal stories that he shares in this cookbook!
