Giveaway: Food Photography By Nicole S. Young

THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER!

I’m really excited about this giveaway!  I know all my food blogging friends will love this book!

Food Photography is chuck full of great tips, information, and of course, mouth-watering photos.

Here’s a sneak peek from author/photographer Nicole S. Young.

Doesn’t that video make you want to grab your camera and take some awesome pictures?

I purchased a Canon Rebel T2i over a year ago and even though I have a great “How-To” video of how to use my camera, I still have so much to learn.  I always use my 50mm lens to photograph food and tend to stick to the same settings while playing around with the aperture a bit.  As far as editing my photos, I usually lighten my pictures or adjust the sharpness on iPhoto.  So you see, I can really use some help from Nicole’s book!  I am clueless when it comes to RAW images and Photoshop.  I’m so thrilled to have Nicole’s book to help me out!  I love that she shares her camera settings on her photos so I can compare them to what I typically use on my camera.

Here are the main topics that are discussed in Food Photography:

Chapter 1:  Photography Fundamentals

  • File Types:  RAW and JPEG
  • White Balance
  • The Exposure Triangle:  Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO

Chapter 2:  Photography Equipment

  • Tools of the Trade
  • Digital Cameras
  • Lens and Focal Lengths
  • Tripods and Accessories
  • Lighting Equipment

Chapter 3:  Lighting

  • Techniques for Lighting Food
  • See the Light
  • Quality of Light
  • Backlight is Best
  • Types of Light
  • Lighting Modifiers and Accessories

Chapter 4:  Styling and Props

  • Styling Considerations
  • Ensuring Food Quality
  • Food Styling Basics
  • Styling Tips and Tricks
  • Prop Styling

Chapter 5:  Framing and Composition

  • Improving Your Photos with Sound Compositional Elements
  • Finding Balance
  • Perspective and Framing
  • Focal Length, Lens Compression, & Depth of Field
  • Focus
  • Shapes, Lines, & Colors

Chapter 6:  Processing Images with Adobe Photoshop

  • Bringing Out the Best in Your Photographs
  • Working With RAW Files
  • Photoshop Basics, Tips & Tricks
  • Finishing Touches

Chapter 7:  Behind The Scenes

  • Food Photography From Start to Finish

This book is excellent for food bloggers and anyone that is interested in food styling. I plan on studying this book this summer when I’m on vacation.  Oh!  And guess what?  Nicole has a great blog where you can learn more about photography. She has some great video tutorials and amazing photos!  [Nicolesyblog.com]

Nicole’s book is available at Amazon.com.

Lighting and camera settings, camera settings and lighting! I kept playing the video above, starting and stopping it so that I could absorb what was being shown. When I saw the pic showing the perfect “grill” marks all I could think of was “CHEATERS!” and then felt silly for all of the times I have tried to make grill marks like those while I cooked. LOL. This looks like a perfect book, just what I’ve been wanting. Thanks for telling us about it.
